Book of the month – The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

Hellllloooo August!

Guess what we were doing at this time last year?

Yup – we had our first ever book club photoshoot by Laura Kelly Photography, who is conveniently a UBC member.

And, at that same meeting/photoshoot, Yael joined us for the first time. You might remember her amazing story from last year. I don’t think she’ll mind me saying she is still doing awesome… and loving the UBC 🙂

It was pretty fitting, then, that exactly a year later we not only had our second annual book club photoshoot, but that Yael also picked our new book.

Funny how last year, red seemed to be the “it” colour. We never coordinate our outfits, by the way – Laura just tells us to wear bright things. This year, pink/teal were definitely in!

We met at a book store for the first time too! Black Squirrel Books & Tea was kind enough to open its beautiful shop at Bank & Sunnyside to us. It was gorgeous, and they have a wonderful selection of classics and hot new reads.

We just loved last month’s pick, The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison (review coming soon). It seems we’re on a kick, because Yael picked yet another classic for August – Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar. I have a feeling it’s going to be amazing.

Have you read either novel? What did you think?

Loved celebrating my one year UBC Anniversary with another great photo shoot and all you lovely ladies! Great job on the gorgeous photos Laura, and can’t wait to hear what you all think of my pick, The Bell Jar. It’s already one of my favourite reads this year!
